A brief list of Jagex doublespeak over the last year that I could find on short notice.
Mod North's Comments

|---|---|
AFK Play Admitted to playing OSRS while working and said Jagex designs for people using one screen for work and another for OSRS. 7/21/2026 — 28:50–29:21 | North defended second monitor play in OSRS while pushing RS3 toward active, lean-in skilling and changes to AFK training, including Thieving and Construction. 8/5/2026 — 16:00–20:30 |
Existing Players and RS3 Growth Warned against chasing new audiences at the expense of existing players. Said removing MTX alone would not restore RS3's growth and promised RuneFest announcements to bring people back. 8/7/2026 — 19:12–20:06; 7/21/2026 — 3:30–5:17 | New players are expected to join RS3 through Reignited, whose economy and PvM exclude veteran players unless they start over on new accounts. |
Instinct and Data Said decisions should start with what feels right, with data hopefully supporting those instincts afterward. 8/7/2026 — 21:19–22:04 | Instinct comes before evidence in Mod North's preferred decision-making process. Evidence, however, is directly presented to the board to justify removing MTX. 8/7/2026 — 45:35–46:17 |
Paid Progression Accepted buying OSRS bonds to fund items as a player's choice, even if it takes something away from the experience. 8/7/2026 — 40:43–41:20 | In OSRS, buying progression is treated as a player's choice. In RS3, buying progression is treated as damage to game integrity. 8/7/2026 — 41:10–41:40 |
Player and Creator Input Said RS3 players deserve the same ownership as OSRS players. Praised content development with player and creator feedback. Credited OSRS polling with keeping Jagex aligned with players, even when they reject content the team wants to make. | OSRS players are praised for having veto power, whereas Reignited (and many game-changing updates over the last year) was announced without giving RS3 players the same veto vote. |
New Projects Said Jagex was not planning any large new projects and instead would focus on improving its existing games over the next five years. 9/23/2025 — 14:27–14:56 | Jagex announced RS4, a new MMO. |
Mod Hooli's Comments

|---|---|
Prepaid Premier Membership Said players would receive Daily Keys for their remaining Premier membership. | Hooli later acknowledged overlooking stacked memberships. However, compensation was limited to the current yearly membership cycle, excluding additional prepaid years. |
Fresh Start Worlds Rejected Fresh Start Worlds as the right way to attract players, citing existing players' concerns and prioritizing the main game. | Jagex announced Reignited with a separate economy and hiscores. |
MTX Item Removal Said existing Proteans could be used throughout 2026 and that nothing would be removed or altered until 2027. | Jagex moved the removal deadline to November 23, 2026. |
Other Jagex Statements

|---|---|
Cosmetics Loyalty Store and points would remain until the end of April 2026. | The store was removed early without advance notice on April 13. |
Login Said players should log in because they want to, not because they feel compelled to. | The Well of Restoration gives players less GP for their removed items if they miss its limited window. Players have also been compelled to log in over the last year to use up MTX items Jagex has decided to remove. |
Road to Restoration Presented the Road to Restoration as strengthening the core RS3 experience for every player. | Calls Reignited the culmination of the Road to Restoration. Yet veterans must start new characters to join its economy and hiscores. |
Exclusive Worlds Announced opening VIP worlds to all members in order to reduce player separation and unequal access. | Announced Reignited-only worlds that existing players cannot access with their current accounts. |
Grandfathered Membership Rates Promised that players could return to their old monthly rate after Premier membership if they resubscribed within 14 days. | Removed the ability to return to that rate for 12-month subscribers, even with continuous membership. |
